OGLE-2005-BLG-390LB, Wind and Fire

Astrononmers recently detected the most Earth-like planet yet around a star other than our sun. Scientists consider this a major discovery, raising hopes of finding a space rock that might support life. The new planet (which orbits a star about 20,000 light years away) has been named OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb.

Umm...it seems we are a little rusty in the planet naming department no? OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb???? Doesn't really roll off the tongue does it? Pluto...works. Venus...a name to be proud of. Mars...a classic. OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb?? Errrr... I could make up a better planet name on the spot. You doubt me? Watch. Freetoze. Utharinon. Beta Centurion. DONE. That took seconds. OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb? Kind of a mouthful.

And who would really want to live on a planet called OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb? You can't really chant that? It doesn't really lend itself for song lyrics.

OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb Angel.
OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb Angel.
Will you be mine
My darling dear
Love you all the time
I’m just a fool,
A fool in love with you

And how big would your flag have to be? The thing would have to fold out to fit that run-on -sentence of a name.

Shouldn't NASA have like a book of cool names for planets ready and waiting just in case we happen upon other Earth-like planets??? I mean are they discovering THAT many planets that they are using up all the good names?

Hmmm...perhaps they aren't telling us something.....I smells a conspiracy!!!!

Awesome. That's good shit. I gotta find out how to link to your damn blog, but when I try I just get frustrated and mash the keyboard...it never works...except this one time.
