It's a big day here in Canada...Election Day. The day when 11% of the population will vote on the future of our country. Voting in Canada is a little different. You see we aren't a two party system, oh no, in fact we have a choice of four parties. How's that for selection? Jealous much? You can comparison vote here. Canada is the Wal-Mart of politics baby.
If you must know, I voted NDP. For the simple fact that I enjoy saying "you down with NDP...yeah you know me!" GOLD! I think they also say something good about healthcare or whatever..
Anywho, on to more important issues...
Don't you just love those times when you discover a new album that you just can't stop listening to? No matter how hard you try to resist you just can not break the grasp that this new album has on you. You find yourself repeatedly listening to it front to back and you completely ignore all other music. The album that currently holds this honor to me is the new Strokes album (First Impressions of Earth). It is brilliant. It's just great upbeat downer music. I am really enjoying listening to the evolution of this band. Sure they have a set sound but they are definitely extending the limits this time around. In particular on such tracks as the somber "Ask Me Anything", "Electricityscape" and perhaps one of the strongest songs the bands written yet "Ize of the World". Trust me and give it a listen.
You know what I just realized recently. In todays music landscape, punk is top 40 and pop is underground and alternative. Is this the friggin twilight zone or what?
I went and saw Woody Allen's new film "Match Point" this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. I've always appreciated Allen's work. He has a brilliant ear for dialogue. But better, he executes conversations real. A huge pet peeve for me in movies is NO ONE TALKS LIKE THIS. In most films it seems like everyone soliloquies. They pick just the right eloquant words and everyone waits for their turn to talk. You talk. I talk. You talk. I talk. Who does this? In Allen's films people stutter, people have incomplete thoughts and people talk over one another. That my friends is REAL. Match Point really surprised me because it was not the film I thought it was going to be. And for the sake of not ruining the picture, that's all I got to say about that. But most of all what made this movie so special was the presence of Scarlett Johansson. Sweet Mary mother of God is this gal just a little slice of heaven. She is old Hollywood classic beautiful. She has great range as an actress. Has a voice that could cripple a man. And that body. Woahh. Honestly, I could watch her viciously berate me for 90 minutes and I would still be breathless.
And ummm yes I am aware she is young. But what you don't know is...she is wise beyond her years.
Shut up she's hot.
